Writing a Single Page Job application
Times have changed. Present day recruiters no longer desire to read through pages of information about the candidate. In fact they are always on the lookout for people who know how to frame a lot of significant information in a short and precise manner. This search starts right from the CV. So, if you belonged to the category of job seekers who think that two to three pages of write up will be able to impress your recruiter then you are grossly mistaken! The idea is to keep it short and simple (our good old formula – KISS – works here too!). This is because there is very little time at present for the employers to scan through a manuscript of information about your educational and professional qualifications.
So, how do you present the information
so that all important information Is present in the application and yet
you’re able to complete it in just a page? The trick is to find the
square pegs for square holes and not round ones!
Gone are the days of subheads and tables
for mentioning the details about the academic and professional aspects.
Unless you are applying for a senior level position, no one is going to
read through the entire CV and try to find the information that they
need. Here’s what you can do:
- Start with a sentence or two about your career aspirations in an interesting and catchy language
- Forget about separate headings
- Bring in all the highlights under 6-8 bullet points
- Don’t forget to mention the high points of your career (promotions, awards, etc.)
- Include hobbies in such a way that they emphasize your strengths
Writing a one page job application is no
different than creating a 30 second advertisement for the electronic
media. You’ve got to know the right way to place the information in
front of your target audience in a simple and precise manner.

Making an Impact at the Time of Interview
The right body language when facing an interview
Making an Impact at the Time of Interview
Having the right body language is very important, especially at the time of interview.
Even if you answer all the questions correctly, the body language may
make things go wrong. It is thus very important to have the right body
language to land the right job.
Defining body language
Everyone is familiar with the term body
language. However, very few know the real meaning of it. Body language
is an ancient way of communication. In the beginning of time, there was
no language and the people of ancient age used to communicate with each
other through gestures. This can be called body language too.
Researchers of recent time have called it non-verbal behavior.
Importance of Body Language
You may be wondering why body language
is so important. Why indeed? After all why bother with the movement of
hands and legs when the interviewer can very well ask you whatever they
want to know. But they are concerned about your body language. The
reason is your mouth will always express how great you are. You will say
to the interview some well rehearsed words. However, your body language
will never lie. It will express exactly what you are. You cannot really
fake it.
When facing the interview everything
comes under observation. You may not even be aware of it but through
your behavior, you depict to the interviewers exactly who you are. Make
sure to be careful about how you sit, your posture, how you move your
hands, making eye contacts and speech delivery.
Behaving in Interview Room
When sitting across the interviewer,
make sure to sit straight. However, do not be stiff and awkward. The
posture depicts the message that you are confident and relaxed. If your
posture is stooped, you will look low in self esteem. Do not inch closer
to the edge of the chair either, this will indicate that you are
nervous.
Relax, and while giving the answers lean
forward towards the interviewer. It will convey the message that you
are interested about what he/she has got to say.
Movement of your head will also display
messages. You should keep your head slightly titling. You will appear
friendly in this position.
Make sure to observe the interviewer. If
you can synchronize your body movement according to the interviewer,
you may get good result. This method is known as mirroring. Maintain a
formal posture till you see the interviewer relax.
Move your hands with care. If you are
not sure about what to do with your hands, keep them on your lap. Do
not, under any circumstances touch your face or hair. It is not only
unprofessional; it is a depiction of nervousness also.
Do not appear defensive by keeping your
arms folded at your chest. Too much movement of your hands to express
your point will be considered as uncertainty.
Maintain direct eye contact with the
interviewer. It will make you appear attentive. Do not keep looking at
the floor. You will appear inattentive and insincere.
These are the few tips of how to behave in the interview room. Learn to behave but have faith in yourself. This can do wonders.
